El 11 de abril de 1936 se estrenaba en todos los cines de España el filme Morena Clara, de Florián Rey. Su éxito fue arrollador e iba a encarnar los elementos más destacados del género de la españolada. Este artículo analiza el filme en su contexto, valorando como a pesar de que la Segunda República impulsó un espíritu reformista en todos los órdenes de la sociedad, su aceptación reflejaría que la mentalidad española era netamente conservadora ante los valores sociales y tradicionalistas que mostraba.
