Abstract

José María Gil-Robles was one of the great figures of the 20th century Spanish right. He wrote and edited a lot but was not known the existence of the political chronicles that he published in the magazine La Estrella del Mar between 1921 and 1924. In these chronicles the catholic writer offered his passionate point of view on events in Spain and the world, exhibiting an essentially reactionary and illiberal ideology, sometimes not at odds with certain doses of pragmatism. Despite their remarkable candor, the articles in La Estrella del Mar are useful for discovering key interpretations of Gil-Robles from the Republican years.
