The legacy of Ramón de la Sagra has been hanged between the currents of his time and the historiographical after. Belonging to the bourgeoisie, he tried to mediate between capitalists and workers before problems arose; having a Christian religious sensibility, he deviated markedly from Catholicism as a temporary power structure, because it conceives the role of Christianity from consciousness and in social solidarity.
The religious phenomenon is embedded in cultural struggles in general and also in political currents in particular. Respect for the autonomy of consciences always leads to somewhat controversial situations and qualifications.
In this approach to Ramón de la Sagra we will set the gaze from the Kantian imperative considering the human person as an end in itself and highlighting the interest in responding from the political system in an integral way to the needs of education, health, housing etc. the commitment to move towards equal opportunities through freedoms and the role given to the structuring of civil society solidarity make it an initial precedent for what will later be the social and democratic State under the rule of law.
