This article analyses a familial group of Guipuzcoan landlords, focusing in particular on one of them, the Zavalas, a family that held important political appointments in the province of Guipuzcoa in the nineteenth century. Throughout the text we try to explain how the social and political changes affected this group as economically, ideologically and politically area. In the first instance, this family maintained their social position, although they had to share the social power with the emerging industrial bourgeoisie. In the politic realm, the unanimity around the Carlism of the family group gave way to support different political parties, but all within the traditionalist sphere. In fact, they shared the same ideology in which the religious component was essential, being the core of their thinking. Likewise, the Jesuits Company was very important in their lives since they had a great influence on them.
