Along with well known names during the nineteenth-century Spanish history as are Toreno, Argüelles, Flórez Estrada, Martínez de la Rosa or Alcalá Galiano, a large number of MPs —so far virtually unknown nineteenth century— came to Parliament to represent the different Spanish provinces. They were who really made it possible to change the anachronistic political institutions of the Ancient Regime into the settlement of the new liberal principles of the constitutional basis of a representative state.
This paper seeks to recover the history of some riojan MPs from the second row politics who attended Congress as MPs between 1833 and 1845. This economic, social and political approach pretend a better understanding of their access to the political participation, the local nature of it and its main features.
