During the 19th century the working-class accommodation attained relevance due to hygiene theory. We will study the case of Salamanca, where the Francisco Franco’s first period constituted the first major wave of suburbanisation for working-class households. The new houses were built in areas away from the downtown and the construction was long-delayed due to the lack of materials because of the isolation of Spain during the first years of the dictatorship.
