Lisbon’s first republican town council took office on 30 November 1908. Their election set an assault on power and their administration revealed that the Republic had suitable individuals to govern the country, contributing to the overthrown of the Monarchy in 1910. We will review the action of successive town council with regard to the fundamental problems from the first to the last city council, deposed in July 1926. A route that was from hope to despair, in line with the inadequate implementation of measures and projects that the Portuguese capital city needed and the citizens claimed.
