Abstract

The research aims to analyze the development of the republican political practice within the City Council of Bilbao between April 14, 1931 and June 19, 1937, date of the fall of Bilbao under Franco´s troops. During this period, the Republican-Socialist majority led the local goverment and articulated measures to bring life to the city’s major objectives of the Republic: education, the fight against unemployment, separation of church and state or the regional issue.
