The discovery of new documentary sources allows you to review the role of the Navy during the Second Republic years in the only naval base that remained loyal to the Republic. Its radical internal division confronted strategies that determined its dissimilar behavior in July 1936. The old breed of the General Corps was carefully attentive to defend its privileges, coordinating with Vice Admiral Juan Cervera Valderrama the conspiracy theory. The officers’ decantation against the democratic regime was opposed by the subofficial classes and the seamanship, determining the military coup failure.
