The proclamation of the II Republic in Spain lead to a change in the international relations of our country: the close ties with Germany and Italy present during the Dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, gave way to a more fluid diplomatic relation with France. This article tries to analyze both Spain’s image, and the particularly incisive vision of domestic events given by Jean Herbette, the French Ambassador in Spain. A vision in which the ideological weight of the democratic and republican values is appreciated, but also the fear of communism and the State interests of his country.
