Abstract

Even without overcoming the turn-of-the-century crisis, the republican groups integrated into Nicolás Salmerón’s Republican Union took on from 1903 a project of modernization of Spain stimulated for the electoral route, leaving behind the nineteenth- century revolutionary way. In this context and, understanding that the local area was the most propitious space to mature Salmeron’s organizational structure, to expand his political culture and to accede to the political management, the launching of local newspapers such as El Porvenir turned out to be strategically indispensable not only in the diffusion of the republican speech, but in the promotion of the new mechanisms of agitation and political socialization that would come with the so called “Mass Politics “.
