Abstract

This paper shows that there are both secular and religious elements to be found in European nationalism at the end of the 19th century. The paper focuses on case studies conducted in France, Italy, Germany and some Central European countries. It also deals with the development of religious and political conflicts andduring the process of Statebuilding in Europe.
