In this article (which was written on the occassion of the centenary of the arrival of Antonio Machado to Soria in 1907) the author tries to show how Antonio Machado seems to live a dangerous inactuality as a consequence of both an exaggerated study in its time and of a certain adaptation to classicity at the beginning of the 21st century. A critical readaptation of the place it occupies in Spanish literature and thinking is necessary, and so, his republican ideology is reviewed with a special interest on the influence of figures such as Eduardo Benot or on the environment of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza because in 1907 the 100th anniversary of the Junta de Ampliación de Estudios is also celebrated.
