The aim of this article is to present the way in which, in German historiography the study of localism is introduced as an interesting field for an understanding of Modern German history. The use of cultural history within localism is taken as a central axis to this approach, and lends itself to the analysis of identity and memory within the binomial local/nation to become one of the richest and most dynamic perspectives in this field of investigation.
