Abstract

In XIX and XX centuries, the ideological proposals of the Iberismo —«historicistas », anthropological, liberal, federalist, monarchists— have sustained themselves in geographic and cultural references. From them, the Iberian Peninsula was a heterogeneous scope in its morphology and culture. The Iberian Union was a project of public space shared and constant, although devoid of decided political will. One was an historical challenge that was intensified or induced sleep depending on the conjunctures. The Spaniards saw in the separation of both nations and historical chance that, being a contingency was susceptible of correction. But Portugal however, he was more susceptible to the rubbing with Spain that evoked the invasion danger.
