The sieges of Girona have an outstanding place between myths born around the Peninsular War. As paradigm of the Catalan and Spanish patriotism, the figure of the military governor Álvarez de Castro rises to the category of hero and myth and is questioned from the celebration of the first centenary. Girona, el Bruc and Tarragona conform the main scene of the memorable batlles of the Guerra del francés in Catalonia.
