The article highlights the obvious discomfort of Spanish liberalism at the idea of individual autonomy. By analyzing the discourse of liberal families, we conclude that the core of this political culture during the Elizabethan era was structured around a vision of the man who distrusted human reason and will. This culture was mostly covered by anthropological references and important arguments that rejected individual sovereignty. Keywords: Post-revolutionary liberalism, political culture, individualism, Spain, nineteenth century.
