Abstract

This article analyzes the construction of Aragon and Castile Kingdoms in the spanish liberal languages of the nineteenth century. First we study the configuration of an anti despotic language from 1808 and its importance to forge a political mobilization during the Liberal Revolution (1808-1843). Second, it is the reworking of the historical language in the conditions created by the construction of a centralized State from 1844- 1855. In general, it is argued that the image of the Aragon and Castile kingdoms were built together, as spaces where the «national freedom» was located, although in uneven and to some extent confronted ways. Throughout the entire period studied (1808-1848) the political and cultural construction evolved in close relation with the degree of openness of the public and political sphere, and thanks to the changes suffered by the patriotic language. Keywords: National identity, historical narration, liberal political culture, provincial identity.
