This article presents the outcomes of a workshop on the Spanish Sites of Memory, which took place in May 2010 at the Institute of European History in Mainz. Taking into account the different contributions, this work reflects on the use of cultural memory in the Spanish historiography, the reasons for the lack of a project on sites of memory in Spain, and the convenience of the analysis through case studies. The need to deepen on theoretical issues, to improve the use of transnational history, and to extend the studies on cultural memory beyond the Spanish Civil War and the Franco regime turned out to be the main proposals of the workshop.
