Power of Italian unionism in its European context and its attempts to achieve unity carried Italian model to a lead position worth taking into account by Spanish democratic unionism. Francoist dictatorship had broken up workers organizations and, during its last phase, democratic unions needed not only reconstructing their own organizations but also contributing to the establishment of operating guidelines about union issues.
